Red Hand of Doom - Session 20: To Lordrhest

In the morning, the Daring Friends set off on their folding boat to Lordrhest. Dameron shared a premonition he had as dawn came: “Not every foe is as they seem, those that walk in shadow may aim for the light.”

As the giant owls circled overhead, one of the riders called down in elvish. Liolkya responded and they landed.

July 5-6

In the morning, the Daring Friends reached their destination and moored their boat. The roadblock was to the north, but they headed to a skirmish to the south.

Sitting down in front of the ship's holonet screen, Reverb scrubs the stains and machine smell out of his armor. "I'm glad I can finally take this helmet off in front of you all," he smiles. It's a common smile.

July 3-4

In the morning, a dark-haired rider arrived from the east, Teyna, Lion of Brindol, in service to the Lord Jarmaath. She warned that while on patrol sweeping up old the Rhest Trail, they ran into a hobgoblin and ogre roadblock waylaying travelers.

We need to talk! Who’s Zanzu? How could you? The questions swirled around his mind as Reverb paced quickly through the new ship they had acquired from Jaden, knowing he had to confront Hest, but still not knowing what he would say. The tension in his neck and shoulders gripped him. It was worse than when he was face to face with that dark force wielder, or when Tarnok was ambushed by the Sith, or when their squad was almost eaten by that giant killer worm.

July 2

In the morning, Dameron woke with a fright and told his companions of the dream he had in the night, a vision from St. Aster. The hills were covered in every direction by hundreds of hobgoblins, goblins, worg riders, and their weapons of war. A massive red dragon flew overhead.

That was a close call, but we did it. We exfiltrated our target. It wasn’t the most precarious situation I’ve been in, but General Tarnok is usually there to guide us. Fortunately, Hest was there. Not only did he shield us from that red-robed force user, but the target trusts him. They always do. Something about those watery eyes…

July 1

The Daring Friends convinced Jaervellios to lead them to the forest giants.

After decorating the front of Vraath Keep with the spiked heads of Koth’s minions, Dameron cast Sending to Captain Soranna and soon received a response.

It was a dark and bumpy ride and when I say dark, I mean it was pitch black. The crate was vacuum-sealed and air-tight. I was prepared for the journey and eager to reunite with Hest. The truck hadn’t stopped moving since we departed and I was grateful that the driver made arrangements to relieve himself without stopping. As it was, I was already on my last canister of oxygen and we were still rolling steady.

June 30 - July 1

Flying as a raven, Gruffudd spotted the wizard’s dropped brooch, swooped down, retrieved it, returned it to Camwise, and flew into the tower.

Dameron was eager to hunt down the escaped goblin, but Balthasar, Camwise, and Gruffudd convinced him it would be wiser to continue on to find Jaervellios.

June 29

It was around noon when the Daring Friends approached Drellin’s Ferry. Burned-out farms could be seen in the distance.

The Daring Friends woke late in the day and decided to ambush the hobgoblins in their house.

After visiting Father Derny at the Shrine of St. Aster, Dameron retrieved his ass from Funguy and they set off west toward Assardoth. It was a foggy morning.

June 26

Dameron and Balthasar visited Delora’s and confirmed that there hadn’t been any further goblin trouble since she recovered Kai and avenged his abduction.

June 25

Balthasar accompanied Captain Soranna to search Jarrett’s Sundries. They found a pair of boots matching the Elfborne’s and letters from Iormel indicating that she had been manipulating him.

June 24

In the morning, Balthasar went to Maerlynn’s Smithy to purchase a sheath for his talking sword.

June 23

Balthasar heard hissing coming from the south and was Enlarged by Camwise as he drank Potion of Giant Strength. Two green guard drakes attacked Camwise and the wizard fell but popped right back up and blinded a drake with Color Spray while defending himself with Shield. Dameron summoned his Spiritual Hammer and retaliated with a Guiding Bolt and Sacred Flames. Unable to bust the door open, Balthasar toppled bookshelves on the drakes. Camwise finished one with Shocking Grasp before falling to the other. Dameron put the other down with his Spiritual Hammer and revived Camwise but they all passed out from the poison that had been filling the cellar.

June 23

The Daring Friends returned to the Toll House first thing in the morning. Dameron used Locate Object to help Captain Soranna find the sunken boat, which he located not far downstream.

June 22

The next morning, the Daring Friends headed to Sertieren’s Haunt. Funguy roamed the nearby grasslands with Ass, Dameron’s mule.

June 21

In the morning, Speaker Wiston approached the Daring Friends to ask for their help with trouble around town. He raised concerns about the hunters gone missing in Borderwood and the murder of Kellen Shadowtuft’s daughter. They promised to help and, after a quick stop at Jarrett’s Sundries to pick up a component pouch for Camwise, were soon headed to Borderwood.

June 19-20

The Daring Friends headed out toward the ruined tower early, bypassing Terrelton altogether. Dameron cooked dinner for them on the road, while Camwise chronicled their journey and made a pit stop by the shrine of St. Venton for inspiration on their travels.

June 18

After Watt swore in the name of St. Aster that he had no intention of robbing and stealing, or worse, and that he was only interested in what was below the tower, we returned his belongings to him and agreed to let him accompany us below.

June 17

The Daring Friends visited Jarrett’s Sundries to inquire about the bounty on the bandits. Jarrett offered us 400 gold coins if we killed all the bandits, who were located in an old tower on a hill overlooking the road between Terrelton and Nimon’s Gap. She also agreed to lend us a cart and have us deliver a small crate to Dix, stablehand in Terrelton.

June 16

The Daring Friends entered Drellin's Ferry; Dameron of St. Aster's Order, Balthasar the brave Dragonwhyte, the wise Camwise Gnarly, and Funguy. They made their way to the Green Apple Inn where they were served by Tharma the hill dwarf. There they learned that Ma Tem’s child Bette had gone missing four days ago.

We were planning our trip to Lord Periandros’ new marble quarry near a small village on the southern peninsula called Marmakomè. Since the mayor had contracted my lord in order to build a new temple, it was clearly very important, but work was apparently being impeded by some two-headed dog, and my lord asked me to take care of it.

We headed north to explore the ruins of Nox’s Ancestral Tower. There was a heaviness in the air, as if a storm was about to break out, though there was only a sporadic light rain. After travelling less than two hours, we happened upon a stone outcropping jutting out over the sea.

It was a balmy day when we set out from Neolantika for the Centaur Trading Post. As the day progressed, the slight rain gave way to a rainbow. The blessings of Heliod were with us.

Tymlor's earliest memories are of a house on a mountainside. A fey spirit lived under a tree behind the house and inspired Tymlor when he was depressed. It was a very lonely childhood.

As a child, Tymlor often slept alone in a barn, was withdrawn from other children, and was cared for by fey spirit guardians.

Our journey is ended, though I fear my own is to continue in the most horrible way imaginable. Compass Rose wrecked on a shoal south of Neverwinter. Many sailors perished with the initial impact, and Aleitha was gravely injured. As I tended her wounds, she clutched her talisman and breathed soft prayers. I asked her what the talisman signified. She told me love. Her husband waits for her at Dragon's Rest, having pledged his service to the dragon there. The talisman is made from locks of their hair, woven together as a promise to be reunited no matter what fate might befall them. It might have been a beautiful story, had it not been for Aleitha's gruesome end—and the words of the prayer I heard as she breathed her last. For she was begging Orcus, the Prince of Undeath, to reunite her with her husband.

I held her hands as the breath left her, and I felt a horrible chill pass through her. Next I knew, she was sinking her teeth into my neck. At the same moment, I heard moans begin to rise from the dead sailors all around us. What curse has she brought on us all?

Already I feel a creeping chill overtaking my body. I am securing her talisman with this book in my chest, in the hope that someone who comes after us may end this nightmare by bringing Aleitha's talisman to her husband.

Armagecia was born in the Southern Ward of Waterdeep to Sergio and Blanca. Her father was born in Waterdeep to a Amnian family and eventually joined the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors where he trained to become a wizard. Her mother was born in Amn, where she lived until she met Sergio and moved north and became a house cleaner and servant to noble families. She has a younger brother named Gabriel, who eventually became a bard. Armagecia lived with her family in the Southern Ward of Waterdeep until she was five, when the family moved to a house in the North Ward.
