Call of the Netherdeep - Session 17: The Crystal Crater

Tymlor glanced inside the double doors and saw a narrow passageway that descended into a gradual turn a short way in. After about ten minutes, the double doors closed. Noticing that the pustules had reappeared on the statue’s palms, Tymlor Fire Bolted them again and the doors reopened.

In the morning, as Question and the companions were headed to Betrayer’s Rise, ACHU noticed a drow following them. She introduced herself as Sarielle, Verin’s protégé, and asked us to let her accompany us to Betrayer’s Rise. After some questioning and debate, they agreed and she joined them as they entered.

The next morning, Question took the companions to meet Prolix, a tiefling archaeologist from Ank'Harel and agent of the Allegiance of Allsight. Prolix offered us a puzzle box that only Question could open, containing a scroll of Bestow Curse. ACHU gave him his ring of whispering.

The next day, they continued on and by midday, they could see tall black stone spires of Betrayer’s Rise jutting from the rusty orange mountains. As they drew closer, they could see a vast gate blocking all entry to the military outpost of Bazzoxan. The structures beyond the walls of the massive gate, patrolled by soldiers of the Aurora Watch, were crumbling and desolate.

In the morning, Tok maintained a Silent Image to conceal the companions as they continued toward Bazzozan.

In the morning, Ayo's group left, and the companions visited the dryad, Lenata, who explained that the hag’s curse would prevent Tymlor from moving at an important time.

As they exited the cave, they noticed the symbol of Tharizdun carved into the floor by the entrance, which Tok manually destroyed.

After Tymlor cast Detect Magic and determined that the spear was not magical but the golden pendant exuded auras of Evocation and faintly Abjuration and and Conjuration, the companions met Ayo’s party in the common room of the Unbroken Tusk Inn for an enjoyable night of dinner conversation, where they all got to know each other better, and even some dancing.

The companions gathered for the Emerald Grotto Race, where they were competing only against Ayo and her party. One of the Elders gave each of the contestants a potion of water breathing that would last an hour.

The companions settled into a nearby tavern for a bite and were greeted by the innkeeper, a friendly orc who rented them rooms for 2 silver coins and mentioned some of the festival’s contests including an underwater race to the emerald grotto, a maze, and pie eating contest, the latter being pies of her own baking.

The companions entered the cave and were soon attacked by bullywugs and giant toads. They defeated the amphibious assailants but Tok had been swallowed by a giant toad and could not be revived.

The companions left Fort Venture and began the journey through The Brokenveil Marsh. After a few hours, they reached a jagged, eight-foot-tall monolith of black rock emerging from a mossy knoll. They examined the stone, which was laced with shimmering veins of crystal. Tok attuned to it and was able to commune with his patron. He took three shards of the stone with him, that he could use to cast Augury.

The companions infiltrated Fort Venture, only to find that Bol'bara had been possessed by her patron, Trush, and killed all the occupants. They confronted the warlock, and eventually subdued her, after which Morgdid and her returned to Urzin while they searched the fort for military intelligence and anything else that might be helpful. Blackavar freed the imprisoned guard dogs and they debated what to do with the prisoner, Alonne Frith, a follower of Ceratos.

Tymlor B'kir, A.C.H.U.00, Tok, and Blackavar arrived in the city of Urzin and met with the Ogre Lord Buhfal, who requested their urgent assistance locating the warlock Bol'bara. Buhfal suspected Bol'bara, being an accomplished warlock, had been abducted by agents of the Dwendalian Empire.
