Call of the Netherdeep - Session 25: First Eclipse

Unndilar 7, 835

Having been contacted by Iwo the previous evening, Tymlor informed his companions that they had been formally invited to join the Cobalt Soul.

When the Clockwork Companions were gathered together at the Golden Chip, Tik wanted to scope out the First Eclipse.

At the First Eclipse, they found a table and Tik engaged the dragonborn barkeep in conversation. After some attempts in vain, they returned to the Golden Chip to sleep for the night while Leery hung behind to see what happens at night.

In the morning, after Leery reported not having seen anything through the night, they headed to see Iwo at the Cobalt Soul.

Iwo introduced them to the High Curator Jamil A’alithiya, who formally admitted them into the Cobalt Soul.

Jamil then expressed his concerns about the Consortium and asked the companions to infiltrate First Eclipse, their headquarters, find out anything they could about its research on Ruidium, and confiscate any magic items. He promised them 1,000 gold upon completion.

As the Clockwork Companions made their way toward the bazaar, they heard the sounds of panic in the streets followed by crashing and stomping. Soon enough they were confronted by the source of the commotion; two rust-colored elephants marching through the bazaar, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.

The Clockwork Companions brought the two beasts down, but not before one of them stomped ACHU to unconsciousness until Tymlor revived him. When the creatures were destroyed, the crumbled to pieces, one leaving a Figurine of Wonderous Power in its place.

Following the path of destruction, they found it led right to First Eclipse. Peering inside they saw the dragonborn barkeep speaking with a red-robed dwarf who threatened their lives if they didn’t leave immediately.

Combat ensued and in the end, the dragonborn was dead and the dwarf was captured. The companions dragged their bodies into the secret room in the First Eclipse and recovered a letter on one of them:

Master Khelkur,

Our attempts to gain access to the rift have been disastrous. An aboleth haunts the Drowned City. It slaughtered all but one member of our last expedition. The creature calls itself Alyxian—certainly not an aboleth name, but not one I am familiar with either. But know this: Cael Morrow is where we must focus our efforts, lest the Allegiance of Allsight claim the only known source of ruidium for itself.

Our key to the rift is lost, but we have a spy in the Drowned City searching for it. Meanwhile, we have decided to secure a new headquarters. Please see that First Eclipse is cleared out—and quickly—before the Hands of Ord search the place.

Humbly,
Master Dendarron

They turned the bodies over to the Hand of Ord officers and returned to the Temple of the Mentor where they informed Iwo and Jamil of what had transpired.
