Red Hand of Doom - Session 2: The Bandits

The Daring Friends visited Jarrett’s Sundries to inquire about the bounty on the bandits. Jarrett offered us 400 gold coins if we killed all the bandits, who were located in an old tower on a hill overlooking the road between Terrelton and Nimon’s Gap. She also agreed to lend us a cart and have us deliver a small crate to Dix, stablehand in Terrelton.

With Dameron’s mule pulling the wagon, The Daring Friends arrived in Terrelton that evening and soon located Dix in the Dry Fruit tavern. He paid them 10 gold coins for the crate, bought them food and drink, and offered them lodging for the night at his home, which they gratefully accepted.

The next day, Dameron hid in the wagon as the old tower came into view. They were soon confronted by five human bandits who demanded 20 gold coins to pass. The Daring Friends refused and quickly put down three of the bandits, one of whom was sleeping.

The surviving bandits, Aelfryd, Corr, and Dyll repented to St. Aster and agreed to give up their life of banditry and accept Dameron’s offer to visit his ruined farm. Insisting that they only robbed but never killed their victims, they revealed that their leader Zazz was working with Watt, a mage fleeing the Black Bolt of Stern. They also shared the best way to approach the tower.

Securing the cart and mule out of sight, the Daring Friends approached the tower from behind the nearby hills. Nevertheless, the bandits saw them coming and when the battle was over, Zazz had escaped, the other bandits were dead, Watt was captured and bound, and Dameron and Camwise were unconscious, having been stabilized by Balthasar.

After interrogating Watt, they learned that Black Bolt was responsible for many murders on the roads and in the towns of the vale. Even Watt’s own bodyguards had been killed and disappeared. He was working with the bandits because he believed there were treasures hidden under the tower and had taken pity on their situation. He also mentioned that the poison came from Drellin’s Ferry.

Camwise was able to locate the secret trapdoor in the tower’s floor, but it was getting dark and before exploring, they decided to rest for the night.
