K,
Hoping to stake out the Brethren of Fate’s monastery, we teamed up with Athyn, a triton rogue.
I must admit that I’m ashamed of how I handled some recent encounters. I must hold myself to a higher standard of honor in battle. But the idea of someone abducting and torturing magic users insights a rage within my soul. I know it’s crazy, but that was then and this is now. I cannot stand the thought that you could be stolen from me forever.
It was raining hard when we headed north toward the monastery. After four hours we reached the forest a few hundred yards to the east. We entered the woods, staying close to the edge. Eventually we entered the woods and were attacked by vines that grappled Athyn until Arktouros ripped them off.
After defeating the vines, and collecting its berries, we continued north until we reached the edge and could see the monastery beyond.
We set a camp a hundred feet from the road while Athyn watched the road. When it was too dark, she returned.
The next morning, the rain had stopped and Athyn continued to stake out the road.
While she was away, Arktouros and I were surrounded by seven Brethren who demanded we drop our weapons. By the time, Athyn ran back to the camp, their leader and one other were down. The others soon followed and there were none left to interrogate. We dragged the bodies to the cliff and threw them into the ocean.
Unfortunately, the bodies were not completely disposed of and needed to be dealt with.
After taking a short rest, we were confronted by five Brethren, their leader was named Cadmus.
They demanded we leave and escorted us to the edge of the Forest of Fate.
Once they were out of sight, we circled around back to the cliff so Athyn could take care of the bodies.
After a couple of hours, she returned and told us she’d encountered a Shorestalker, Linus, who corroborated the claims of the Brethren's abduction of magic using children. Apparently, they pay five gold coins for any children who meet their magical requirements and are often taken from Lover's Leap.
After two days of recuperating in Neolantika, we paid a visit to Anaxomander. Disappointed that we had not retrieved the book for him, the sage canceled our deal and returned our items without identifying them. Arktouros immediately alienated the sage, insulting him and taking a swing that was blocked by a Shield spell before being dismissed.
Anaxomander took an interest in Athyn and revealed more information to her, specifically that east of the Eldenwood was where the Brethren were trading the children with another party.
The next morning, we headed east to the Eldenwood and turned north, circling the woods through the hills. After spotting a coast, a paved road, and a tower, we made camp just inside the wood.
That night, Athyn woke us and told us she had encountered a dragon who asked her many philosophical questions before flying away. Certain it was a dream, I went back to sleep.
The next morning, we returned to Neolantika and encountered a Lagonna caravan carrying exotic game from Sentessa. Their leader, Daksa, allowed us to travel with them back toward Neolantika. We parted company when they turned toward the Forest of Fate and made our way safely to Neolantika.
