August 6 - Day 3-4
They each took an item from the large pile of treasure. Gruffudd took the chest of gold and gems, Camwise took a Helm of Reading Magic and Languages, Balthasar took an Elixir of Life, and Dameron took the Staff of Healing.
After resting for the night, Dameron shared his premonition: attention aux fruits empoisonnés.
They went through the western door to another room filled with swirling mosaic tiles embellished with knights adoring a golden cup. Gemstones were embedded throughout the mosaics. There was another door on the opposite corner to the northwest.
The next room was much smaller with bands of stucco on the walls and a golden cup on a pedestal in the center. Camwise detected some anti-magic properties coming from the pedestal. The pedestal was adorned with grapevines, among them was a serpent.
A dark and foreboding figure robed in amber appeared in the mosaic room. Admonishing the Daring Friends, the figure summoned the shadows of the mosaic’s knights to attack.
Balthasar cast Protection from Evil on Camwise and used his Gaze of Conviction on one of the three shadows. Two of the shadows flanked Balthasar but were blocked by his Shield. The third shadow attacked Camwise with a shadowy tendril but was also blocked by a Shield. Entering the room, Dameron channeled his divinity, turning one of the shadows, and hit another with his Spiritual Hammer. Camwise cast Haste on Balthasar.
Hasted, Balthasar slashed into the northern shadow. As one of the shadows fled, another slashed at Balthasar. Slashed by the third shadow, Dameron smashed it twice with his morningstar and once with his Spiritual Hammer. Flanking the north shadow, Camwise hit it with a Shocking Grasp.
Balthasar slashed into the northern shadow and tried to encourage the robed figure to be chivalrous but was rebuffed as the figure called two shadow dragon wyrmlings from the mosaics. The north shadow slashed at Balthasar. The southern shadow moved north and tried to attack Camwise with shadowy tendrils. One of the wyrmlings bit Camwise, and the other grabbed his staff. Dameron hit a shadow with his Spiritual Hammer and cast Spirit Guardians. A shadow dancer swung a chain toward Dameron. Camwise blasted the dancer with a Thunderbolt while a shadow and a wyrmling were resistant.
Balthasar slashed into both shadows and used his Gazed of Convicton on a wyrmling. Blazed by Spirit Guardians, the shadows slashed into Dameron, who struck one of them down and hit another with his Spiritual Hammer. The shadow dancer swung her chain toward Dameron. Disengaging, Camwise picked up his staff. Etienne, the robed figure, cast Silence around Camwise.
Balthasar struck down the last shadow. A wyrmling breathed on Dameron, who struck it down with his Spiritual Hammer and drank a Potion of Greater Healing. The shadow dancer swung her chain toward Dameron and disappeared. Camwise tried to parlay with Etienne, who used his Telekinesis to toss him back into the Silence, breaking his concentration.
No longer Hasted, Balthasar was exhausted. Blazed by Spirit Guardian, the wyrmling breathed on Dameron, who used his Force of Will to resist the effects. Disengaging from the wyrmling, Dameron hit it with his Spiritual Hammer. Etienne tried to Dominate Balthasar. The shadow dancing chained Dameron.
Balthasar slashed into the shadow dancer, disarming her and freeing Dameron. Drinking another Potion of Greater Healing, Dameron struck down the shadow dance with his Spiritual Weapon. Camwise cast Dispel Magic, removing the Silence, and negotiated with Etienne, who Hasted the Daring Friends.
Balthasar slashed at the wyrmling, which flew at Dameron. Dameron resisted its bite with Force of Will and struck it down with his Spiritual Hammer.
Camwise suggested to Etienne that the golden caused the Amber family harm, provoking the robed figure who replied, “I doubt Sertieren would ever be able to accomplish any such magicks of which you speak—the occult was outlawed in our land by the wicked church. What defense would the folk have against demons of flame and spite, without the esoteric arts?”
As the Daring Friends were conferring, Etienne disappeared and where has sat was a scrap of paper. Camwise picked it up and read it, “The innocence of youth may be found at the bottom of a cup.”
After taking a short rest, the Daring Friends returned to the small room with the cup on the pedestal where Camwise cast Alarm.
They returned to the long corridor toward the third tomb. According to the directions, where there should’ve been an open doorway, there was a solid slab of stone. Camwise cast Enlarge on Balthasar, who pushed the slab with Dameron assisting with his Arcane Muscles. Inch by inch, they moved the slab when Camwise noticed an odd pattern in the floor.
Camwise alerted his companions as the slab turned into a crushing juggernaut!
