K,

We had a very successful excursion and even you would be proud. My only worry is that we still don't know if magic using children are being abducted. You see, Arktouros, Autolycus, Athyn, and I met a wizard named Kleon who was eager to join us on our return to the cave. He had an owl named Gust.

The weather was perfect when we headed out from Neolantika. After passing the Forest of Fate, we traveled along the Old Imperial Highway. We had made good time and had passed the tower when it was time to camp.

While camping, Athyn noticed an armed man leading a woman ahead of him. Autolycus introduced himself as an agent of the Polemarch. They introduced themselves as Pallas and Niobe, brother and sister. We welcomed them to stay in our camp.

In the morning, the pair had left, heading north, and we continued to follow the Eldenwood south. After a little more than an hour, we found the blazes leading to the clearing.

With Athyrn’s help, we found the cave. Gust flew in first and saw a mass of darkness but it was gone when it returned. We all followed Athyn into the room with the boulder. Kleon was nearly pinned by a portcullis tram. Autolycus was able to work a release mechanism, leaving the portcullis on the ground.

Athyn was able to remove the quartz crystal sphere from the ceiling over the boulder and the shadow swords disappeared.

We headed left down a sixty-foot corridor to a star-shaped chamber with two exits. The right passage sloped downward and Gust saw two iron chests in the cavern below.

To the left was a death-like stench. Athyn and Gust led the way down a long curving hallway to a large chamber. Ten ragged, malnourished humans were chained to the left wall. Farther on the right wall were stairs leading to a lever. Above each was a sconce and torch.

On the far side of the chamber emerged the large creature of darkness that attacked us in the woods along with three pitch place humanoids.

Together we took down the shadow monsters and captured the wizard that was controlling them. With the wizard subdued, we rescued the captives by destroying the glass eyes in each of the sconces.

While Arktouros and Athyn led the captives outside, Kleon and Autolycus inspected the room with the two iron chests and we dragged them out of the cave. They were each filled with silver coins.

It took us three days to return to Neolantika, but when we arrived we were greeted with a hero's welcome by none other than the Polemarch himself. It was a feast like I had never seen before.
