Hammer 2, 1489
Dre'zel my love,
I found an unobtrusive place to watch Timber’s home from a distance while Talyth went off to purchase cold-weather clothing and update the rest of our companions.
After an hour, Talyth and Jojo arrived at Timber’s house and informed him that he was to be spared.
After Skath left, Talyth and Jojo informed me Timber was spared because a rich noble named Thomas had been killed after paying a bribe to be excluded from the lottery. His corpse was frozen solid, and the killer was not found. I found it ironic that Timber was spared because of Naerth’s corruption.
I decided to continue watching Timber’s home in case the killer came to claim Auril’s justice while Talyth headed to Three Flags Sailing. Jojo stayed with me.
While we were waiting, two flying ice-creatures perched on top of Timber’s roof. I alerted Jojo, and as he was sneaking closer, they cast Fog Cloud. I shot one with an arrow, and the Fog Cloud disappeared. Sephek Kaltro emerged from Timber’s house and threatened us if we didn’t let him go, admitting to being the killer inflicting Auril’s justice.
I began kiting Sephek and the mephits as they advanced, hitting both with arrows. Our companions, who had also been attacked by ice mephits, slowly began to arrive, but it was too late. Jojo was down and Sephek had an icy saber to his throat and threatened to kill him unless we let him go.
I had Sephek in my sights and it pained me to let him go free because I was afraid of the consequences his actions could have on Talyth as a follower of Auril. But by the look of my companions, it seemed likely that Talyth would not have it in her to revive Jojo, so I relented.
After Jojo was stabilized, we brought him back to the inn. Orion had decided to pursue his own adventures.
Later that night, Talyth woke me from my trance to investigate a noise downstairs. It was a large dog with the tag naming him Boy. After he was fed, Boy seemed eager to depart so I tied a rope around his harness and followed him.
Boy soon led me to his owner’s home where a scrimshander named Keegan explained that his husband Garret had taken Boy and five other dogs with him on to lead an expedition of adventures to Kelvin's Cairn. They never returned. Fearing for his husband’s life, Keegan offered some of his artwork if we could find him.
I told him I would consider his offer and returned to the inn until my companions woke and I could share what I had learned. We all agreed to try our best to find Garret, and Keegan agreed to let Boy come with us so he could lead the way. We later learned that Keegan was the nephew of Owenn Tarsenel, the proprietor of the Luskan Arms.
Naerth, completely transparent about taking payment in exchange for being excluded from the lottery, agreed to pay us a small sum for alerting the speakers of the other towns of Sephek’s deeds. He gave us a stamped letter to bring to the other speakers.
After learning that Torga’s caravan had left in the night, we soon departed Targos and I found the caravan tracks heading east. We headed in the same direction util we soon arrived back in Bryn Shander.
At The Northlook, we met some dwarves who told Saritu that they had been attacked by a yeti while transporting a sled of iron ingots. They offered a reward if we could return the sled and ingots.
