After spending the day making preparations throughout Brindol, The Daring Friends braced themselves for the impending assault.
The night was dark with new moons when the horns finally blared. The Daring Friends were soon alerted to two bands of hill giants attacking the walls and moved to counter one of them. Riding with Camwise on his summoned Steed, Dameron rode up to the giants and took control of them with his Rod of Rulership, along with a hobgoblin squad and their priest. The Daring Friends took their followers to meet the other group of giants who had breached the walls. Flying from Camwise scroll, Balthasar used his Thunderblade and Thunderstuck a row of giants, killing one. Jaervellios shot at the giants with his bow. Gruffudd sprinted across the field and dropped down behind a boulder. Still riding Camwise's warhorse, Dameron cast Bless on Camwise, Jaervellios, and himself. Captain Ulvert and his squad of militia soldiers attacked the giants and were attacked by the Hobgoblin captain, a squad of hobgoblins, and the enemy hill giants. A hill giant clobber knocked Captain Ulvert down. Camwise cast Thunderbolt on the Hobgoblin Annihilator, the Hobgoblin captain, a squad of hobgoblins, and the enemy hill giants. The charmed hill giants threw rocks at the others. Balthasar used his Thunderblade and Thunderstuck a giant. Jaervellios shot at the hill giants with his bow. Gruffudd cast Call Lightning, striking the Hobgoblin Annihilator and destroying the nearby squad. The Hobgoblin Annihilator destroyed a militia soldier squad with a Cone of Cold. Still riding Camwise's warhorse, Dameron blasted the Hobgoblin Annihilator and a hill giant and killed the Hobgoblin Captain. One squad of militia soldiers killed a giant, while the other was tossed off the wall by a giant. Captain Ulvert was getting clobbered by two giants until he dropped one of them. The hoblin squad threw spears and began climbing the walls. Camwise hit the Hobgoblin Annihilator with a Fire Bolt. The charmed hill giants threw rocks at a hobgoblin squad. Balthasar used his Thunderblade to strike a giant clobberer. Gruffudd used Call Lightning to strike the Hobgoblin Annihilator, destroying the nearby squad. The Hobgoblin Annihilator cast Fireball, blasting Captain Ulvertm and destroying a militia soldier squad, a hobgoblin squad, and a Hill Giant. A manticore fell from the sky, almost hitting Balthasar. Still riding Camwise's warhorse, Dameron blasted a giant with three Scorching Rays before getting swatted by the giant in return. Captain Ulvert struck down the Hobgoblin Annihilator with a javelin and hit a giant with the other. Camwise finished the last giant with a Fire Bolt. The Daring Friends friends had little time to rest before they were called to confront Abyxrla, the red dragon. The elves said they did not see a rider on Abyxrla's back, but the dragon seemed to be calling forth elementals from the flames in the buildings! As the Daring Friends rushed to the enflamed area of the city, they heard lightning and thunder, and behind it was a familiar operatic voice. Ulwai Stormcaller, true to her name, had summoned a storm, fanning the flames that Abyxrla created! The Stormcaller herself was not present, but her awful song filled the night sky with thunder and lightning! Dameron had the hobgoblin priest cast Cure Wounds on him and Bless the five giants before standing by until further instructions. He instructed the giants to spread out as they engaged the dragon. Flying from his potion, Balthasar engaged Abyxrla with his Gaze of Conviction, which she resisted before roaring and frightening two hill giants. Abyxrla’s Fire Breath washed over Balthasar, but it barely phased him. Jaervellios struck Abyxrla with an arrow. Gruffudd cast Sleet Storm on two fire elementals, extinguishing the two fires around them. Using his scroll of Control Water, Camwise flooded the fires near the river. A Redspawn Firebelcher belched fire at Camwise's steed, destroying it and knocking Camwise prone. The Hill Giants threw rocks at Abyxrla, smashing her in the head. A Redspawn Firebelcher belched fire at one of Aaqastal’s unnumbered, but he defended with Shield and blasted two Redspawn Firebelchers with a Cone of Cold, killing one and extinguishing the flames around the other. Dameron hit a Redspawn Firebelcher with a Spiritual Weapon and a Sacred Flame. A Redspawn Firebelcher belched fire at Camwise and another at Aaqastal, but they were barely impacted. Doffing his Shield and dropping Rufus, Balthasar used his Thunderblade on Abyxrla. Abyxrla unleashed her Fire Breath on Balthasar, but he was barely phased. Jaervellios hit a Redspawn Firebelcher with a Paralyzing Touch and unleashed his dancing saber to slash at it. Lightning crackled down from the sky at Gruffudd, but he hid behind an Earth Barrier. Gruffudd blasted two Redspawn Firebelchers with his Staff of Wintry Demise. His water elemental smashed the nearest Redspawn Firebelcher. Withdrawing fifteen feet, Camwise extinguished a Redspawn Firebelcher and the nearby fire with a Cone of Cold. A Redspawn Firebelcher bit Gruffudd, shattering his shield. Aaqastal destroyed a Redspawn Firebelcher with Magic Missiles and chilled another in a Wall of Ice. Dameron hit a Redspawn Firebelcher with a Sacred Flame. A Redspawn Firebelcher escaped from the Wall of Ice as it extinguished the flames around it. Donning his shield and summoning Rufus to his hand, Balthasar restrained Abyxrla with his Iron Bands of Binding, causing her to fall 380 feet and crash to the ground as a gem shattered from Abyxrla’s chest, and a fire elemental appeared nearby.
