Challenging the rock troll, Balthasar dashed atop the log bridge. Dameron hit it with a Sacred Flame as his wolves blasted it with cold breath. Gruffudd hit it with a Thunderwave. Impacted by the cold and thunder, the troll leaped off the log, grappled Gruffudd and Dameron, and took a bite out of the dwarf.
Engaging the rock troll, Balthasar forced it to drop Gruffudd. Dameron hit it with Sacred Flame as one wolf breathed cold on it and the other bit it. Gruffudd transformed into a mammoth. The troll leaped toward Balthasar and grappled the drakkenwhyte, biting into him. Balthasar hit the rock troll with his cold dragon breath. Dameron hit it with Sacred Flame as one wolf breathed cold on it and the other bit it. The troll swung Dameron, slamming him into a wolf. Mammoth Gruffudd gored the troll. The troll smashed Balthasar and body-slammed Balthasar and Dameron. Drawing his Frostbrand, Balthasar swung into the troll, breaking free of its grasp. Dameron hit it with Sacred Flame as his wolves bit into it and knocked it prone. Mammoth Gruffudd charged into the troll, goring it and trampling it to pieces. Mammoth Gruffudd toppled the log, revealing a cache underneath. Searching inside, they found a map with shifting words, a lantern, a small hairy foot, a map of a distant land, and 2,800 silver coins. They used their Folding Boat to travel downstream until they reached a large rock garden. In the garden were statues of a knight and a princess. Surrounding them were other statues, some life-sized and others much smaller. As they entered the garden, Balthasar summoned Sir Aldric from his armor. Examining some smaller statues, they appeared to be gnomes, and a larger statue at the garden’s perimeter had a horrified expression. Spotting a bird, Gruffudd briefly gave chase before composing himself. Near a statue, the dwarf found a wand on the ground and picked it up. In the garden’s center, they saw the knight’s hand was broken off. The princess appeared terrified of the knight. Around the statues was written, “A kiss shall free one, and blade shall free the other.” Searching the garden for the knight’s hand, Gruffudd realized all his gold coins were missing. Saying a prayer and casting Guidance, Dameron kissed the princess statue, which promptly transformed into a rock troll, slashing and grabbing Dameron. Blurring himself, Balthasar caught the troll in his Gaze of Conviction. Sir Aldric blessed them with Noble Inspiration. Casting Bless, Dameron commanded the wolves to attack the troll. The wolves blasted the troll with their cold breath. Other swarms of gnomes engulfed Gruffudd, a wolf, and Dameron. Gruffudd cast Wall of Fire, scorching swarms of gnomes. One gnome ran through the flames and grabbed at the wand Gruffudd was holding, but the dwarf held it fast. As another gnome cast Lightning Bolt from its wand on Gruffudd and Balthasar, Gruffudd cast Earth Barrier. The troll body-slammed Gruffudd and Dameron and bit Balthasar. Balthasar slashed into the troll with his Frostbrand, forcing it to drop Dameron. Sir Aldric picked up the knight’s hand and tossed it to Balthasar. Rising from the ground, Dameron blasted swarms of gnomes with a Lightning Bolt, but they seemed resistant. The wolves bit into the troll. The gnomes continued to swarm everyone with bites and claws. Gruffudd cast Thunderwave, blasting the troll and two swarms of gnomes. A gnome blasted a wolf and Gruffudd with a Lightning Bolt, dropping a wolf. Another gnome blasted Balthasar and Dameron. The troll grabbed Dameron and body-slammed him, failing to swallow him. Balthasar and Sir Aldric slashed into the troll with their blades. Quaffing a Superior Potion of Healing, Dameron cast Mass Healing Word. The wolf bit the troll. Gruffudd cast Thunderwave, sending gnomes flying and blasting the troll. Lightning Bolts blasted them, dropping Dameron and the troll. Balthasar placed the hand on the statue and Rufus in the hand. Sir Aldric slashed into the gnomes. The wolf bit into the gnomes, who swarmed their attackers in turn, killing the last wolf. Gruffudd used his staff to cast Mass Cure Wounds, reviving Dameron. The gnomes blasted them all with Lightning Bolts. The knight came to life, Rufus in hand glowing blue, and cleaved into the gnomes, dropping two swarms. Balthasar and Sir Aldric slashed into the gnomes. Terrified of the knight, a swarm of gnomes scattered, Balthasar and Sir Aldric slashing them as they ran. Another swarn engulfed Gruffudd with bites and claws. Gruffudd exploded the swarm with a Storm Kick. A gnome blasted Gruffudd and the knight, dropping the dwarf before the knight sliced down the remaining gnomes. Balthasar revived Dameron and Gruffudd and Dameron cast Mass Cure Wounds. Rufus recalled that he was a holy blade belonging to a paladin of St Adele. The knight froze and crumbled, dropping Rufus to the ground. Balthasar reclaimed Rufus. Dameron and Gruffudd were afflicted by poison ivy until Gruffudd cast Lesser Restoration. Gruffudd cast Burning Sphere and destroyed the poison ivy.
